Flashback Friday: Celebrating the 19th Season of a Holiday Classic
Escape the ordinary with the company’s revolutionary 2014-2015 season! Aside from the world premiere of Helen Pickett’s Camino Real and the return of Romeo & Juliette, we have yet another exciting reason to celebrate! One of Atlanta’s most popular holiday traditions is celebrating its 19th season this year. In honor of “Flashback Friday” we are taking you back to look at Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker debut performance in 1995.
Did you know that today’s veteran dancers were not the lead roles of the Nutcracker back in the nighties? Recently retired company member Christine Winkler performed as a ‘Flower’, while husband John Welker participated as the energetic ‘Chinese’ character. And let’s not forget the talented Tara Lee who performed in 1995 as a ‘Lamb.' Company members were not the only people involved in this thrilling production of the Nutcracker. Dance instructor Armando Luna performed as the beloved ‘Prince’ alongside Sharon Story, ballet mistress and Dean of the Centre for Dance Education, who played the role of Mrs. Petrov.
